The 1980s was before the era when it became common for entire television series to be released on home video. During that time, Nippon Sunrise had a common practice where some time after one of their shows concluded, they would release a short series of recap/digest videos. Assuming those videos sold well enough, they would then release one or more OVAs featuring new animation.

Such was the case with Vifam, where the two "Variety of Vifam" recap videos were followed by two all new stories. This is the first of those two, it is a standalone story set during the main series.

Asagiri Youko is an ordinary high school student, and she is in love with a boy who does not know it. To help things along, she has written a song to explain how she feels, but that song has quite a bit more than a couple of good bridges. Youko learns that while she is listening to her song, she is transported to Earth's other-dimensional sister world Ashanti. This song has the potential to open a gateway between Earth and Ashanti for a conquering force to invade. And this is exactly why aeons ago it was forbidden by the legendary warrior Leda, who saw this coming. Leda's warrior duty now falls to Youko and some new-found friends to stop the onslaught and return balance to the two worlds.

Maybe Youko is not so ordinary after all.

* Based on a short story by Kataoka Yoshio.

The 17-year-old Nomura Akihiko, called Bobby, is an underachieving high school kid with a deep love for motorcycles. His grades are failing, and his father, traditional and strict, is trying everything he can think of to get the kid to apply for college. His mother is so silent, she might as well not even exist. Really, his system lies entirely in his twinkle-toed little sister, the 14-year-old Keiko, who is nosy but cheers him on in her own way.

Bobby really does little else but work on his bike. His most recent achievement seems to have been getting photos of himself on a road trip printed in a motorcyclist hobby magazine. This leads to an unexpected result: A girl his age, Nakahara Sakumi, who picked up that issue on a whim, decides to write him a letter. A romantic letter...

When Jiro is thirteen, his adoptive family is murdered and Jiro is blamed, only to be rescued by Tenkai, a priest, who trains him in the mysterious arts of the Ninja. Seeking revenge for the loss of his adoptive family, Jiro kills the mysterious one-armed Ninja who reportedly slew them.

Years later, acting on a tip from Tenkai, Jiro tracks down his real mother, only to learn that Tenkai had tasked his father with finding a clue to the lost treasure of Captain Kidd. With the treasure in hand, the Shogun will be able to retain control, and Japan will once again isolate itself from the world. However, his father fell in love, abandoned the search, and had a child -- and for this failure, Tenkai exacted a terrible revenge!

Now the chase begins, as Jiro, with only the Dagger of Kamui to help him, searches for the great treasure, a search that will take him all the way to the American Old West, with Tenkai's minions always close behind.

If Jiro can find the treasure and return to Japan, then, perhaps, Jiro can exact his revenge, and thrust the Dagger of Kamui into Tenkai's black heart!
