Some important things happen in this OVA (new character introduction!), so definitely watch this before going on to the 2nd season (even though it's a bit weaker than the seasons themselves).

This serves essentially as an introduction for Ogiue, which will assume a very important role in season 2.
Needless to say, it's a must watch for the Genshiken fan.

Not as good as the first season, but fun to watch, and helps with continuity between seasons 1 and 2.

Decent... this prepares you the viewer for the 2nd season. But might as well watch this because it ties into the 2nd season

this is a continuation to my reviewing of this whole title,Genshiken.
this is a 3 episodes ova,as a continuation to the original genshiken.the same settings with some more events,most of them character's development oriented,which is something good and not good at the same time.
The good: the character development element is strongly present here in a suitable way.i mean they added a new dimension to some characters,specially Madarame and Kasukabe.basically these two are my favorite characters of the whole title and their somehow complex relationship is really interesting.
The Bad: these 3 episodes feel that they are not very related and t with the original 12 episodes.the whole feeling of the story and its settings changed.some elements of the story are not presented here,but this is may be due to the fact that this is just a 3 episodes OVA,each episode is 23 minutes.even though it may be right and coherent with the original,it just does not feel right to me,it kind of ruined the feeling of the anime,but also this may be to the fact that i dont accept change easily.
Animation 8:
the animation is sharper here,and it may be of more quality to some people.but to me i didnt like it much,the original was better in my opinion,it felt more "natural".but still no major changes here and the background is more detailed at some points which is a good thing.
Sound 7:
still good,but no major changes either.this is also due to the fact that this is only a 3 episodes OVA and is considered to be a continuation to the original one.they only changed the opening theme which is good.i liked the ending theme very much and its still here.
Story 8:
i didnt give it more than 8 because nothing really happens in the ova.but in general they brought some interesting stories specially in the 2nd episode and the introduction of a new Genshiken member too.
Character Development 9:
its so obvious here.Kasukabe kind of changed her opinion about Otakus and the fellow genshiken .she even had something to eat with Madarame,ALONE !.Madarame changed and actually had the guts to pay more than 4000 yen to buy cloths.he even changed his glasses.
its more obvious now that Ohno and Tanaka has something going on.i will see if im true at genshiken 2

well as i said,no major events in these episodes,except for the new member,Ogui.in fact,if its not for her,this OVA could have been considered as some kind of a filler or something.

Final word,the genshiken series is must see for any decent anime fan.give the lolis a rest and watch some decent stuff from time to time,it wont kill you

A short continuation ova to bridge up the gap between the series and the original one. As always the elements from the original have all sprung up reminding me of why I liked this anime. Just like the first series this one shows the lives a hardcore otakus in an university setting. Although some of the things they introduce are a bit outrageous I wouldn't be too surprised if all of the things were close to truth. Indulging relentlessly into your interests seems to fit the description of otakus in this day and age. So if you watched the original series you should have a good idea about what the anime is about and how it left off. The only difference in this ova is that 2 new characters are introduced into the cast. One male and one female the males name I don't but the girl is Oguie. This Ova is basically to show how Oguie s and starts to familiarize herself with the club.
Animation
As always it is consistent with before. They don't do anything to out of the normal but put in the effort that is needed. Although the characters look a little more smooth this time around. For me I thought that they looked better before when they were more roughly drawn. They also don't need very many background settings for this series because most of it consists of talking. Thus the ones they use look nice and flow well with the series. They also more or less the same as what we are used to seeing.
Sound
In of sound I enjoyed the opening and ending that were new. The opening was a light and easy song. While the ending was slower and closed the episode well. Other then that they don't really use much music in the background for the anime aside from anime themes on there tv. The voices stayed the same too so I liked the consistency. As such I can't complain about this since all the voices fit in my opinion.
Story
Unfortunately since the OVA was only bridge you really did not have much of a plot going on. The only real thing that went on was the assimilation of a character but this did not make for much of an excited jam packed story. Although it had its own charms I really can't say that it is enough. The other thing I had to consider was that this is also part of how this anime functions. Thus I concluded that even though the story is weak it is acceptable in of this anime.
Character
On the other hand since this OVA focused on that one point. The development of characters was strong as ever. This part of the series always amazes me when I see normal people slowly accept otakus. The process they use isn't drastic and could for real life scenarios. The other thing they added was the converse where some characters tried to break out to more normal things. Both sides of the story are very interesting to watch and also fun to see how the characters develop. Too bad the OVA is relatively short so not too much changes from the start to finish. It'll definitely be worth the while to watch the series when it comes out.
Value and Enjoyment
I can't say that an excessive amount of value can be extracted out of this. It does have some themes of trying to make people accept various characteristics of otakus but it was more for comedy purposes. In of being rewatched, I could easilly rewatch it since it is light and funny. It can also be concluded that I enjoy series like this were the theme is absurd but well done. Right from the first series I really enjoyed how they took on the topic of Otakus and I hope that the series will be as promising. This OVA is mostly suitable for those who have already seen the first and enjoyed it. It is possible to watch it alone but you will be missing alot of important information thus I would not recommend that. As always enjoy!
