Gintama' starts off 2 years after the original series and pretty much continues the legacy of Gintama.
Somehow Hijikata feel to have been "left behind" because everybody but themselves changed in those 2 years that they didn't realize had been ed... or did they?
Note: Clarified by the man Gintoki himself at the beginning of episode 5, the title's pronounciation is neither Gintama Dash or Gintama Dot, it's simply Gintama. The little dot is just there for grown up reasons, because they grow hair down there and so on...

Not sure why I haven't done this before. I wrote in previous rec that Gintama 1st season is the best anime ever. Well, it started the best franchise ever, but I believe this season did the impossible and refined into something even more godly. So, yeah, without any overstatement: This is the best anime ever. And believe me, I don't throw this particular claim around like in the beginning of my anime 'career'. For the last 9 years, it has always been Gintama for me.
